Use Your Serger with Confidence to Finish More Projects

Achieve serger success as you learn to solve problems for tension, thread balance and sewing on slippery fabric! Join me, serger expert Sara Snuggerud, in my online Craftsy class, Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques, and take all the fear out of using your machine to create excellent results efficiently.

In my class you'll learn to get amazing results from your serger, even if you don't use it often! First, we'll review the basic parts of your machine, and you'll discover how to make the best thread choices. For efficient and stress–free serging, I'll teach you correct spool placement and proper threading techniques. Plus, you'll learn to tie on threads properly for quick rethreading.

Next, I'll share tips on how to easily find the best tension for your serger by identifying balanced versus unbalanced stitching. Soon, you'll know how to serge smooth, beautiful seams and troubleshoot any potential tension problems. For a flawless finish, we'll also talk about testing your stitches on the same fabric before you begin sewing.

Are serger needles, threads and knives throwing you for a loop? Understand exactly how serger loopers and needles work together, how to fix a looper thread break, how to select the right needles and when to change them.

Then, learn why it's important to keep your knife engaged even when you're not trimming and how to adjust it for certain stitch widths and fabric types. I'll even help you identify when to replace an old serger knife.

With these essential skills covered, you'll add fun and flair to your projects with dynamic ribbon and wooly nylon thread. I'll show you how to adjust for different–sized threads and embellish your project using a decorative flatlock stitch.

I'll share even more special serger techniques for using the differential feed and choosing the best fabrics for this setting. Soon, you'll know how to prevent overstretching, maintain an even feed and use a gathering foot to make projects with gorgeous texture.

Finally, I'll show you simple troubleshooting techniques you can do at home. Learn how to properly clean and oil your machine, identify stitch plate problems and clean the tension discs. For trickier problems, I'll help you understand when your serger needs professional service. Enroll in Serger Solutions: Troubleshooting Techniques today and build the confidence to maintain and use your serger to create fabulous projects for years to come.

With over twenty–five years of experience teaching new–owner serger classes, I have developed the best techniques and tricks for making the most of your machine. My passion for the craft began when I started working in a sewing shop at the age of fifteen. Five years later I was hired to be an educator and trainer for Bernina of America. Now, I'm the co–owner of the sewing and quilting shop Heirloom Creations in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. When not in the store, I enjoy teaching serger classes and hosting serger workshops.

On Craftsy, you can instantly access my class and all of my serger solutions — anytime, anywhere, forever. Using your serger may seem difficult, but with Craftsy's interactive classroom, I'll be able to answer your questions so you never get stuck. Take notes, repeat lesson clips and create beautiful serger stitches and decorations in no time.
