Hi, I’m your “Fairy Bra-Mother” Beverly Johnson, and in my online Craftsy class, Sewing Panties: Construction & Fit, you’ll learn how to construct panties that fit, flatter and leave you feeling fabulous. In this class, you’ll learn how to properly take measurements, draft a pattern, and expertly finish a brief-style panty that flatters your body and fits your style. And because you're learning with Craftsy, you can watch on your own schedule and ask me questions along the way.   In our first lesson, we’ll get acquainted as I give you a quick breakdown of panty styles. Then you'll learn to take four easy measurements and evaluate the "stretch factor" of your fabric—the foundations for flawlessly fitting panties. Next, you’ll learn to draft a master pattern for a brief-style panty from back to front and everything in between. I’ll also show you how to account for stretch in your final pattern. In lesson three, we’ll begin constructing your panties by sewing an enclosed gusset (a sign of well-constructed panties). We’ll then test the fit and measure the leg elastic.   We’ll finish your first panty in lesson four by sewing the leg and waistband elastic with two passes of stitching. We’ll then troubleshoot elastic mishaps and learn to make pattern alterations for better fit. In lesson five, I’ll demonstrate how simple pattern alterations can turn your brief-style garment into a bikini, hipster or French-cut panty. I’ll also show you shape-defining details that make your panties even more flattering. Last, we’ll give your panties designer-quality style by adding personalized touches like feminine, comfortable lace edgings or lace panels and godets. I’ll wrap up the Sewing Panties: Construction & Fit class by sharing a fun ruching technique.   I began teaching bra-making in 1995 after years of sewing my own dance costumes and swimwear.
