A Wardrobe of Custom Shapewear from One PatternReady to take the next step in your sewing journey with firm powernet fabrics? Join me, intimate apparel designer Beverly Johnson, aka your Fairy Bra-Mother, for my online Craftsy class Sewing Shapewear: Smooth Silhouettes. I’ll teach you how to sew your own custom shapewear for a sleek, smooth appearance under any garment. In my class you’ll discover key concepts for sewing shapewear in a variety of popular styles using a single pattern. Plus when you learn with Craftsy, you can work at your own pace and ask me questions along the way. | | We’ll get started by reviewing the pattern included in your materials, and all of the variations you can make for a complete shapewear wardrobe. Then I’ll help you choose the right fabrics and size for your pattern, explaining how to easily alter it for larger sizes.
Next, follow along as I share layout, cutting and marking tips. Then we’ll start sewing the full-body shaper, beginning with the lace or fabric cami section, using curved darts, and set it into the shaper front. Continue constructing the shaper as you create an optional opening via the center-back seam. Afterwards, we’ll sew up the inseam and side seams, and finish the hems and edges.
| | You’re well on your way to a whole new wardrobe of shapers! In this next lesson you’ll see how to make adjustable straps for either the scoop-back or bra-back option, and how to draft the bra-back and create a to-the-hip shaper option.
With your full-body shaper complete, find out how to easily alter your pattern to make slimming shorts – the most popular shapewear style! I’ll share three different ways to add various types of elastics for a professional-looking finish. You’ll even learn how to make a high-waist option and bicycle shorts! | | Finally, we'll wrap things up by learning to customize any shapewear style with extra tummy or thigh control, posture bars and derrière support. Enroll in Sewing Shapewear: Smooth Silhouettes, and gain the skills to create a wardrobe of custom shapewear using one versatile pattern! After years of sewing my own dance costumes and swimwear, I began teaching bra making in 1995. I’ve been helping people to sew their own bras, swimwear and intimate apparel ever since! I’m the owner of Bra-Makers Supply, which carries specialty patterns, fabric and findings, and have published several books: Make and Fit Swimwear, and two volumes of The Bra-Maker's Manual. You may also recognize me from my other Craftsy classes, including Sewing Bras: Construction & Fit. I’m thrilled to teach another Craftsy class and guide you through sewing your own shapewear. I love that these classes are yours forever, so you can watch at your own convenience anytime, anywhere, and come back as often as you’d like. Let’s get sewing! Beverly Johnson | Craftsy Instructor |
